Walking pneumonia or bronchitis

Walking Pneumonia or Bronchitis – Find Out

Having a respiratory disorder… so is it walking pneumonia or bronchitis? This difference is crucial to know, yet difficult to figure out. Both diseases attack the respiratory system and have the potential to harmfully affect your pulmonary air passages. So, read along to distinguish whether you may have a walking pneumonia or bronchitis

:

The walking pneumonia is a milder version of pneumonia. It is generally caused by bacteria. During this infection, the oxygen supply to the body is hampered because the bacteria affect the air sacs in lungs. The excess secretion from air sacs makes the efficient exchange of air difficult. Consequently, the body cells are unable to function properly.

The walking pneumonia also shares certain symptoms with seasonal flu. So, most of the people discard the possibility of having a walking pneumonia as being trivial. It is also true that there are certain viruses like adenoviruses, influenza viruses, etc. which may cause you walking pneumonia after a viral infection. These are more difficult to deal with as antibiotics are incapable of containing the viruses.

The major difference between walking pneumonia or bronchitis is that the bronchitis is an inflammation in the respiratory tract. It occurs in the bronchi (branches connecting windpipe to lungs) as the lining cells secrete excess mucus. This causes the flow of air to be blocked. Hence, the body is deprived of adequate oxygen. To expel the mucus and clear the pathway for air, coughs are experienced by the person. This condition may be acute or chronic. The cause of bronchitis may or may not be a bacterial/viral infection. For instance, smoking also triggers this disorder.

Whether it is walking pneumonia or bronchitis, there is no particular age limit to which the causative agents would target. Everyone is at the same risk. However, the children (below 15 years) who spend major part of the day closely interacting with their peers are relatively prone to acquiring the walking pneumonia.
